Institutional Review Board

Revised Common Rule Implementation Delayed

On January 17, 2018, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a six month delay for the effective date of the New Final Rule (revised Common Rule). As of now, the new implementation date is scheduled to be July 19, 2018. We will keep you apprised of our program changes as this new implementation date approaches. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the IRB at 208-426-5871.

An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established by an institution to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects recruited to participate in research activities. Federal, state and university regulations require all human subjects research conducted by Boise State University faculty, staff and students to be approved by the IRB before the research can be conducted. The Office of Research Compliance provides administrative support.

Assurance and Registration

Boise State University maintains a Federalwide Assurance of compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). The University assumes responsibility and obligations to ensure all research activity involving human subjects will be regulated under this Assurance, regardless if research activity is funded or unfunded.

In accordance with our FWA (FWA00000097), the University is registered with OHRP (identified as IORG0000591) and has established two Institutional Review Boards (IRB00000924 & IRB00008762).

IRB Walk-In Hours

The IRB office hosts walk-in hours for students, staff and faculty seeking guidance about the IRB process. We encourage investigators to meet with the IRB office early in their research planning. If you are not available during walk-in hours, appointments can also be scheduled by contacting the ORC at 208-426-5401 or humansubjects@boisestate.edu.
